SUNWARD Initiation of Mass Export to Latin America

On the morning of 16th July, SUNWARD ceremony of initiation mass export to Latin America was grandly held. Symbol of the ceremony’s finality, as well as the startup of SUNWARD Brazil project was 30 machineries sent from SUNWARD Intelligent Industry Park I. This is an initiation of mass export to Latin America followed Europe, Southeast Asia, Russia, Africa and Oceania. Remarkably, it’s a further step on SUNWARD internationalized way.

Last year, SUNWARD reached an agreement with Brazilian largest car dealer – SHC Group. According to the agreement, SHC and SUNWARD will explore Brazil and Latin America machinery market together. This June, SHC Group took a monthly journey to investigate SUNWARD strength and products’ quality, and ordered 190 equipments at one-time. The order contains medium-large excavator, skid steer loader and forklift which values 40 million Yuan (about 5.9 million dollars). Except for these 30 construction equipments, the other 160 equipments will export to Brazil in two batches, at August and November by appointment.

According to the agreement, accessory depots and products’ exhibition center are coming up in the center of Brazil, as well as 20 SUNWARD distribution spots all over Brazil. This will help SHC explore Brazil market on the basis of existing well-rounded marketing system. SUNWARD and SHC will contribute products and after sale together to Brazil market. Fernando Ribeiro, manager of SUNWARD Brazil project and He Qinghua, president of SUNWARD both are confident that revenues of terminal market will reach 12 million dollars in 2010, and exceed 100 million dollars within 3 years. SUNWARD aim to be listed on tops of Brazil construction equipment sales.

International matches such as 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games will be held in Brazil, which demand construction equipments urgently, and SUNWARD products exported this year may be used in those competition sites’ construction. Based on achievements made in 2010, SUNWARD will launch piling equipment, rotary drilling rig, Rock Drilling Jumbo, pavement and lifting equipments in Brazil, and open up Latin America market in the near future.

According to Exhibition Director Collin Davis, the fair will have some 215,000 square meters of exhibition space, and some 1,700 international exhibitors will present their products at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC) from November 23-26.

One of the new aspects of the upcoming edition of the fair is close cooperation with the North American Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), which is organizing the American Pavilion at bauma China for the first time ever.

The 29th bauma international trade fair in Munich, Germany, this month, has set a new record in the number of exhibitors. A total of 3,150 exhibitors from 53 countries are currently setting up their stands and exhibits on nearly 6 million square feet of exhibition space. A high turnout by the Chinese and international exhibitors has underpinned that Bauma is one of the best platforms in the industry to initiate business and cultivate global contacts.

bauma China is the leading international trade fair in China and Asia for all sectors of the construction-machinery industry. It is growing at a pace that even industry experts find impressive. In 2008, the fair experienced a 40% increase in the number of visitors, exhibitors and exhibition space compared to bauma China 2006. China and its neighbouring Asian countries are the growth market for products, know-how and services in the construction industry. Investment activity is high, demand is enormous, and this dynamic market has plenty of opportunities to offer. Without a doubt, bauma China is the finest gateway to one of the strongest and most interesting markets in machinery industry. Bauma China 2010 is where Chinese and international professionals meet to initiate business and to establish and cultivate contacts.

Opportunities and Challenges in China’s Used Construction Equipment Market By Tina Peng, Resale China

During the early 1990s, China’s resale market was still very young and disorganized. After many years of development, the market volume has accumulated to such a large scale to drive a very active business. According to the statistics of the National Lease & Used Equipment Committee NELUEC, In 2006, China’s used construction machinery equipment business turnover reached 34 billion RMB, 48 billion in 2007, 80 billion in 2008 and this figure surpassed 100 billion RMB in 2009. An annual increase of over 20%. In China’s machinery industry, used construction machinery also became one of the 6th fastest growing industries. According to the China Custom record, only hundreds of second-hand excavators were imported to China in 2008. But now annualy imported used excavators amount to over 20,000 units, which is equivalent to 1/3 of the annual sales of the new excavators in China. The growing demand for used construction equipment cannot be ignored as opportunities and challenges both exist in such a market.

Firstly, international manufacturing giants are taking a much bigger share in the market. “There are obviously ‘strong international companies and weak domestic ones’ claimed Yu Xiaomei, the General Secretary of NELUEC. On the one hand, a few large international manufacturers have become the leaders in this market and become even tyrannical in some machinery. On the other hand, domestic players are comparatively very weak” The global manufacturing giants are taking the biggest market share and the rest are separated by many Chinese SMES. A recent questionnaire on China’s machinery rent market by CMRA (China Machinery Rent Association) showed that 70% of the rent companies have equipment amounting to less than 100 units. No more than half of rent companies have registered capital over 10 million RMB, which reflects the main players in China’s used equipment rent market are small private companies. With so many of these companies competing for such a small share, there is no doubt the competition is significantly fierce.

Secondly, as yet there is no law to regulate the used equipment market, which was in chaos once the market was born. The biggest challenge is reliability. Many small companies try to hide their equipment problems and try to present their stock “in good condition”. In addition, there are also few authoritive evaluation organizations in between to provide a fair price, with the exception of large companies such as Caterpillar who have their own reliable evaluation team. With much concern and doubt in mind and with limited evaluation experience, users are afraid to buy from unfamiliar channels, so they are more likely to buy from their own network. Some who were cheated are unaware of which organization or authority can provide help. In March 5, 2010, “Technical Standard for Used Construction Machinery Circulation—General Standard” was issued by NELUEC. A detailed standard for different types of equipment is expected to be published step by step. There is still a long way to go for these initial regulations to play an important role in the market control. However, this can be considered a good start to nurture a better market environment for used construction equipment.

Thirdly, the payment issue is another concern with used equipment companies. Because formal sales or rent invoice and contract is seldom used in the deal to avoid tax, and banks cannot get involved in such a deal, it is also hard for renters or sellers to protect their own interest once users have a problem with making payment . This common practice, which covers almost 80% of the deals in China, will not be good for the development of Chinese private used equipment companies.

From the above, we can conclude that Chinas used equipment industry is a fast growing market where challenges and opportunities both exist. The opportunities are likely to be seized by the companies with more capital, more experience and more advanced management home and abroad. We, Resale China, are dedicated to provide you consulting information and assistance about the new and used construction equipment market in China. AEM Economic Indicators Report – March 2010

Reports indicate that U.S. economic conditions continued to strengthen in January and February, although severe snowstorms in early February restrained activity. The Federal Reserve reported that consumer borrowing rose by $4.96 billion in January, surprising economists who expected a decline of $4.5 billion. It was the first gain after 11 straight declines.

Stock market gains lifted household wealth, and prices for big-ticket items have fallen. Manufacturing has been among the strongest parts of the economy in the recovery, while consumer spending has been held back by high unemployment. Construction spending fell for a third straight month in January.

Residential real estate markets showed improvement but like many economic sectors, the unusually harsh winter weather slowed growth. Residential property prices in the US increased 5 percent in February over last year. The economy shed 36,000 jobs in February and the unemployment rate held steady at 9.7 percent. Economists generally see this as a good sign; the economy may be close to the point where it creates more jobs than it loses. In February of 2009, by comparison, the economy lost 726,000 jobs.
