One of the new aspects of the upcoming edition of the fair is close cooperation with the North American Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), which is organizing the American Pavilion at bauma China for the first time ever.

The 29th bauma international trade fair in Munich, Germany, this month, has set a new record in the number of exhibitors. A total of 3,150 exhibitors from 53 countries are currently setting up their stands and exhibits on nearly 6 million square feet of exhibition space. A high turnout by the Chinese and international exhibitors has underpinned that Bauma is one of the best platforms in the industry to initiate business and cultivate global contacts.

bauma China is the leading international trade fair in China and Asia for all sectors of the construction-machinery industry. It is growing at a pace that even industry experts find impressive. In 2008, the fair experienced a 40% increase in the number of visitors, exhibitors and exhibition space compared to bauma China 2006. China and its neighbouring Asian countries are the growth market for products, know-how and services in the construction industry. Investment activity is high, demand is enormous, and this dynamic market has plenty of opportunities to offer. Without a doubt, bauma China is the finest gateway to one of the strongest and most interesting markets in machinery industry. Bauma China 2010 is where Chinese and international professionals meet to initiate business and to establish and cultivate contacts.

Bauma 2010- Liebherr entering Articulated Dump Truck (ADT) market

wedge

Liebherr has launched its first ever articulated dump truck (ADT) at Bauma. The 30 tonne capacity TA230 on display is the first model in a range that will cover the 30 to 50 tonne categories. The next model to be released will be a 40 tonne machine.

According to Liebherr, the TA230 has the dimensions of a 25 tonne machine, with a width for transport of 3 m. However, the company also claims it has the largest dump body in its class at 19.2 m3.

The 6 x  6 driveline features three rigid axles, oil-cooled wet brakes, automatic transmission and a torque converter, with power coming from a 10,5 litre 270 kW engine. The top forward speed is 57 km/h, while in reverse an electronic limiter keeps the maximum speed to 16 km/h.

The cab features large windows for all round visibility and a fully adjustable seat, while a touch-screen display provides operating data and a feed from the rear-view camera – a standard feature. Parameters displayed on the screen include temperature, engine speed, air conditioning settings, number of dumping operations and daily operating hours.

As one would expect from Liebherr, key components such as lift cylinders are manufactured in-house. These deliver a dump time of 10 seconds or less, with an equally fast return to the down position.

wedge

European, Asian and American companies, the largest corporations specializing in road construction and special vehicles were brought together at Europe’s only event of this kind, which is also Poland’s third largest fair in terms of rented exhibition space. The International Fair of Road Construction AUTOSTRADA – POLSKA attracted more than 800 companies representing 25 countries. The range of exhibited products encompassed at least 2,000 pieces of equipment; beginning with auxiliary tools and finishing with the highest cranes. AUTOSTRADA-POLSKA featured all the world’s leading brands, multinationals, associations and organizations. All those expecting the implementation of the motorway development programme in Poland to pick up speed. The four-day-long AUTOSTRADA-POLSKA fair in Kielce was visited by 15,000 people.

“Our exhibition attracted all those intending to build a strong position for themselves in the road construction industry,” says President of the Management Board of Targi Kielce, Andrzej Mochoń. “The same as in the previous year, we have already received applications for a fourth of our exhibition space and 8,000 square metres to be used in 2010. Regrettably, it is beyond the capacity of our exhibition centre to host all the applicants. In fact, the road construction sector, the same as the Fair itself, attract immense attention of industry insiders. Therefore we have embarked upon new investment projects and it is very likely that in the near future, events such as AUTOSTRADA-POLSKA will accommodate all those willing to exhibit”.

On-line auctioneer IronPlanet has received its highest ever bid for a single piece of equipment after a Chinese bidder visited its stand at bauma.

“We’ve had a slow start to the show,” said Tom Cornell, the company’s managing director for Europe, “but it’s been very exciting and the quality of visitors has been excellent.”

IronPlanet received their highest ever bid for a single piece of equipment, € 580000 for a 300 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1300 based in Iceland.

Despite the volcanic dust covering the country, the bidder used IronPlanet’s on-line inspection report to evaluate the crane and placed a bid using IronPlanet’s online auction platform.

Bauma 2010 poised for strong turnout despite European airports and airspace closed by volcanic ash cloud

wedge

The European air traffic authority Eurocontrol estimates that some 20,000 flights will be cancelled on Monday as volcanic ash continues to ground planes across Europe.

The agency said that, on a normal Monday, about 28,000 flights operate in European airspace. It now expects 8,000 to 9,000 flights – down about 70% compared to last week.

Around 17,000 flights were expected to be cancelled on Friday, with airspace closed across much of Europe.

The disruption is costing airlines more than $200 million a day, air industry body IATA estimated.

Fraport AG, which operates Germany’s main airport in Frankfurt, says its initial estimate was for the ash to cost it between 2.5 million and 3 million euros per day.

Iceland’s location means the eruption could prompt wider disruption to international flights.

“Iceland sits right on one of the key routes between Europe and the USA and…depending on meteorological conditions it could also affect flights from Europe to Asia, so there are two big international flows which could be affected by this,” said John Strickland, director of air transport consultancy JLS Consulting.

According to Messe München, CEO Klaus Dittrich, Bauma 2010 will have more exhibitors than in 2007 and that the proportion of exhibitors from abroad will also be higher [2007: 54 percent].”

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT

Eurostar, which runs trains between London and the European continent, said trains were operating at full capacity and it might lay on additional trains if necessary.
