BETTER FLEET MANAGEMENT CAN SAVE CONSTRUCTION FIRMS MILLIONS OF DIRHAMS, SAY INDUSTRY EXPERTS

wedge

The Big 5 PMV, now in its fourth year, will be staged at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre alongside the Big 5, from 22-25 November, 2010.

Australian specialists use Big 5 PMV to tell fleet managers “Don’t disregard operating costs in pursuit of results”

Dubai, UAE, 20th October 2010:  UAE and Middle East construction firms still trying to shrug off the effects of the economic downturn can save millions of dirhams through more effective management of their plant and vehicle fleets, an industry expert says.

Australian fleet management specialist and author Grant Andrews warns that fleet managers who focus on delivering results for infrastructure projects often fall into the trap of disregarding fleet operating costs, which can represent up to 30% of the total project outlay.

Andrews will tell fleet managers at the Big 5 PMV exhibition in Dubai next month that they can cut operating costs by up to 10% by implementing procedures which can also lead to big savings in other areas. Read More…

CNH Agricultural Equipment Third Quarter Results

wedge

CNH Agricultural Equipment Third Quarter Results

Net Sales in the agricultural equipment segment increased 12.8% for the quarter (13.4% on a constant currency basis) on the back of growth in demand in the Americas that more than offset the difficult, but stabilizing, trading conditions in Europe and Rest of World markets. Operating Margin increased to 8.5% from 6.5% from the comparable period in 2009. This improved profit performance was largely the result of improved industrial economics, product mix, and favourable geographic distribution of revenues.

Company and dealer inventories ended the period largely in line with estimated market demand and historical norms for the period. CNH production for the period was slightly below the pace of retail sales due to seasonal plant shutdowns, inventory balancing, and in preparation for new product launches.

CNH continued to invest in its agricultural equipment product portfolio and industrial capacity during the third quarter. The Company continued to significantly invest in the launch of Tier 4/Stage IIIA product introductions with dealer and customer training programs completed during the period for the first products in the line-up, 4-wheel drive tractors. Investments in the Group’s industrial footprint for both whole goods manufacturing and components supply continued in conjunction with the product plan announced in April 2010.

Agricultural Equipment Industry and Market

Worldwide agricultural industry retail unit sales decreased 1% compared to the third quarter of 2009. Global tractor sales fell 1% while global combine sales grew 6% for the quarter.

North American markets rose 2%, with tractor sales up 2% and combine sales up 7% on continued strong demand from the large cash crop segments. Sustained commodity prices and the continuation of government support programs drove demand in Latin America where tractor sales rose 21% and combine sales were up 16%. The decline in equipment demand moderated in Western European markets which were down 5% for the quarter, with tractor sales falling 4% and combine sales down 13%. Rest of World markets were down 6%, with a 6% drop in tractor sales and a 7% rise in combine sales.

JCB wins compensation for product copying

wedge

JCB has agreed settlement terms with an Asian manufacturer of backhoe loaders regarding allegations of product copying of its 3CX backhoe loader. It has received an undisclosed settlement payment and the manufacturer has agreed to fundamentally redesign its backhoe loader.

This is separate from the court actions JCB took against three Asian manufacturers at the Bauma (pictured) in relation to copying its backhoe loader and telehandler machines.

Tim Burnhope, JCB’s Group Managing Director for Product Development and Commercial Operations, said: “This is the fourth incident this year of an Asian manufacturer copying one of our machines and taking unfair advantage of 57 years of product development. JCB is determined to act promptly and decisively in relation to such activities and stamp them out.”

Sales rocket for JCB’s smallest ever telehandler

wedge

Gloucestershire plant hirer Rocket Rentals has heaped praise on JCB’s 515-40 compact Loadall after taking delivery of some of the first of the new machines to be sold in the UK from Holt JCB.

The six-machine order from Rocket Rentals marks one of the first orders of the new model – which is the smallest Loadall telescopic handler model ever produced by JCB . The Dursley-based firm has already taken delivery of two machines, with a further four to follow. Each is specified with air-conditioning and licensed for road use.

One has gone straight out on hire to Devizes–based construction firm Gaiger Bros Ltd, where it is working on a school renovation project in Warminster for a three-month period. Thanks to its width of just 1.56m, the JCB’s ability to travel through a narrow pass way at the entrance to the site makes it the only individual machine could perform this specific project.
