If you want to target South East Asia and China and have machinery to sell, then get ready for the bumper Special Issue 2512 of Resale Weekly.

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) - An organisation of South Asian nations, was established on 8th December 1985 to provide the promotion of economic and social progress. Members include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Great opportunities exist in these countries for trade and all members have an appetite for used and new machinery and construction equipment.

With India investing (US) $1.2 trillion in infrastructure projects in the next five years, including transport, irrigation, oil, gas and telecommunications, all will need equipment and machinery, so this is a market to watch. At market, Indian interest is already being seen with smaller construction companies buying good used equipment; predominantly backhoes, telehandlers, compressors and mixers. Pakistan is another ready market for older equipment, with emphasis on items such as wheeled loaders and excavators. Make is not important at this stage but older, non computerised machinery is preferred. Other SAARC member countries are expected to follow with equally attractive needs. Watch this space!

China – With offices in China, Resale Weekly has both a great view of the activity within the SAARC nations as well as a real understanding of and extremely strong trade links within China. Now a tour-de-force in the global market, China is really shaping economies around the globe. For global projects China is buying better equipment, in addition to manufacturing its own equipment, based on popular international designs, for its home market.

The Chinese home market still has great demand for less sophisticated equipment so opportunities exist for most makes and models of earlier kit. The Chinese equipment market experienced annual growth of around 29% between 2005 and 2011. Whilst the economy in China is still strong, that growth is now predicted to moderate year on year, with growth reaching +6%, which forecasts the Chinese construction machinery market to be worth US $ 61 billion by 2015.
